About the position

Penske Logistics is seeking a proven leader with relevant experience and skills to join our team of transportation and logistics professionals as an Operations Supervisor. This role is pivotal in providing operational leadership at a single location, ensuring that customer requirements are met while achieving Penske's goals and objectives. The Operations Supervisor will supervise drivers and oversee logistics operations, including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatching, and proper documentation and procedure control. This position requires a strong commitment to customer service, excellence, and innovation, as well as the ability to motivate and engage team members effectively. The Operations Supervisor will be responsible for establishing and sustaining training for all supervisors and associates, ensuring they understand how their work relates to customer business objectives. This includes monitoring attendance, productivity, and performance standards, providing coaching and counseling to associates, and motivating them by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition. The role also involves conducting team meetings, evaluating preferred work methods to increase productivity, and providing relief coverage for operational duties when associates are absent. In addition to operational responsibilities, the Operations Supervisor will ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, manage associates' working hours to minimize overtime, and maintain a focus on safety by aligning day-to-day management with the location's safety strategy. The supervisor will also work closely with customers to understand their goals and objectives, ensuring that Penske is committed to helping them meet these expectations. This position requires flexibility in work hours, especially during peak seasons and holidays, and may involve working weekends as needed by customers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure the execution of daily tasks and activities including driver deliveries, loading/unloading of trailers, and customer service operations.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch and proper documentation and procedure control.
  • Conduct team meetings and evaluate preferred work methods to increase productivity of dispatch operations.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards and provide coaching and counseling to associates.
  • Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies & procedures such as tracking MPG, returns, damages, etc.
  • Ensure day-to-day management and associate activities are aligned with the location safety strategy.
  • Understand the location-specific customer goals & objectives and work to meet and exceed these expectations daily.
  • Properly plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment.
  • Work with vendors to ensure equipment is maintained and with Penske Truck Leasing to ensure schedule of preventative maintenance is complete.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect, build rapport and maintain solid relationships with associates, Company leadership, internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and the ability to actively listen are required.
  • Ability to manage through a problem, think critically, and make decisions independently.
  • Ability to drive process improvement and lead change.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in logistics or supply chain management.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance standards.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role within a logistics environment.
