About the position

Penske Logistics is seeking an Operations Supervisor to lead a team of drivers at our Frederick, MD location. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our logistics operations run smoothly and efficiently while meeting customer requirements and company objectives. The Operations Supervisor will provide operational leadership to individual contributors and the hourly workforce, overseeing daily tasks such as driver deliveries, loading and unloading of trailers, and customer service operations. The position requires a strong focus on process improvement, team motivation, and effective communication to drive success in a fast-paced environment. The Operations Supervisor will be responsible for supervising logistics operations, which includes managing customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch, and ensuring proper documentation and procedure control. This role involves conducting team meetings, evaluating work methods to enhance productivity, and providing training to new associates. The supervisor will also be involved in performance management, including monitoring attendance and productivity, coaching associates, and making disciplinary decisions when necessary. In addition to operational responsibilities, the Operations Supervisor will ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, manage associates' working hours to minimize overtime, and maintain a focus on safety by aligning daily activities with the location's safety strategy. The supervisor will also work closely with customers to understand their goals and objectives, ensuring that Penske Logistics meets and exceeds their expectations. This position is scheduled from Sunday to Wednesday, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and supports a team of 50 to 60 drivers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, and dispatch.
  • Conduct team meetings and evaluate preferred work methods to increase productivity.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and performance standards, providing coaching and counseling to associates.
  • Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, tracking MPG, returns, and damages.
  • Manage associates' working hours to minimize overtime and meet productivity targets.
  • Ensure day-to-day management aligns with the location safety strategy and conduct safety observations.
  • Understand location-specific customer goals and work to meet and exceed these expectations.
  • Plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to actively listen.
  • Ability to manage through problems, think critically, and make independent decisions.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $65,000-$70,000 annually with bonus eligibility up to 12% of base salary.
