About the position

Penske Logistics is seeking an energetic and team-oriented leader to join our team of transportation and logistics professionals as an Operations Supervisor. This role is pivotal in providing operational leadership at a single location, ensuring that our customer requirements are met while achieving Penske's goals and objectives. The Operations Supervisor will supervise drivers and oversee daily tasks and activities, including driver deliveries, loading and unloading of trailers, and customer service operations. The position requires a commitment to excellence and innovation, as well as a proven ability to motivate, engage, coach, and communicate effectively with team members. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing and sustaining a trained and competent workforce, ensuring that all associates understand how their work relates to customer business objectives. You will monitor attendance, productivity, and performance standards, providing coaching and counseling as necessary. The Operations Supervisor will also conduct team meetings, evaluate preferred work methods to increase productivity, and assist in new associate training. Additionally, you will ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, manage associates' working hours to minimize overtime, and maintain a focus on safety by aligning day-to-day activities with the location's safety strategy. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build rapport with associates and customers, and a demonstrated ability to drive process improvement and lead change. You will need to be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and possess strong time management and organizational skills. A high school diploma is required, while a bachelor's degree is preferred. Regular attendance and a willingness to travel as necessary are essential for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch, and proper documentation.
  • Conduct team meetings and evaluate preferred work methods to increase productivity.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and performance standards, providing coaching and counseling to associates.
  • Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures such as tracking MPG, returns, damages, etc.
  • Manage associates' working hours and activities to minimize overtime and meet productivity targets.
  • Ensure day-to-day management and associate activities are aligned with the location's safety strategy.
  • Provide associates with communication, training, feedback, and direction to ensure safe performance.
  • Understand location-specific customer goals and work to meet and exceed these expectations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to actively listen.
  • Ability to manage through a problem, think critically, and make decisions independently.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
