About the position

Penske Logistics is seeking a proven leader with relevant experience and skills to join our team of logistics professionals as an Operations Supervisor. This role is critical in providing operational leadership at one of our warehousing operations, ensuring that customer requirements are met while achieving Penske's goals and objectives. The Operations Supervisor will lead a team of individual contributors and hourly workforce, overseeing daily tasks such as loading and unloading trailers, cross-docking, and customer service operations. This position is bonus eligible based on performance, with the potential to earn up to 12% of the base salary for Max Performance. In this role, the Operations Supervisor will be responsible for supervising logistics operations, including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch, and ensuring proper documentation and procedure control. The supervisor will conduct team meetings, evaluate and recommend changes in preferred work methods to enhance productivity, and assist in training new associates. Additionally, the supervisor will ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, manage associates' working hours to minimize overtime, and maintain a focus on safety by aligning day-to-day activities with the location's safety strategy. The Operations Supervisor will also play a key role in understanding customer goals and objectives, ensuring that the team is committed to meeting and exceeding these expectations. This position requires a strong sense of ownership and responsibility, as well as the ability to connect and build rapport with associates and external customers. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to drive process improvement and lead change within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure the execution of daily tasks and activities.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch and proper documentation and procedure control.
  • Conduct team meetings and evaluate performance standards that are specific and measurable.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards and provide coaching and counseling to associates.
  • Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition.
  • Assist in new associate training and provide relief coverage for operational duties when associates are absent.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures such as inventory accuracy and control, returns, damages, etc.
  • Ensure day-to-day management and associate activities are in alignment with the location safety strategy.
  • Understand the location-specific customer goals & objectives and work to meet and exceed these expectations daily.
  • Properly plan work assignments to ensure effective use of warehouse equipment.

Requirements

  • 2 - 4 years related functional experience required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and the ability to actively listen are required.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint required.
  • Demonstrated ownership & responsibility to run the operation with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to connect and build rapport/relationships with associates and external customers at all levels.
  • Ability to work efficiently with time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage through a problem and think and make decisions independently.
  • Ability to drive process improvement and lead change.
  • Experience with inventory management system preferred.
