About the position

As an Operations Support Specialist at BD, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our manufacturing goals are met through effective training and operational support. Reporting directly to the Business Unit Manufacturing Leader or Supervisor, your primary responsibility will be to provide training support to the assigned manufacturing area and general production support. This includes coordinating training across qualified trainers and ensuring consistent training practices for new associates and those enhancing their skills through the pay-for-skills process. You will also support safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned, contributing to a positive and efficient work environment. Your role will involve implementing the train-the-trainer process, identifying qualified associates to train, and conducting individual training sessions when necessary. You will provide operational support to the manufacturing Supervisor or Business Lead, focusing on safety, efficiency, production per hour (PPH), quality, and achieving production goals. Additionally, you will assist in machine operation and support co-workers in meeting safety, quality, and output objectives. Your responsibilities will also include monitoring production machinery, troubleshooting basic issues, and ensuring compliance with production standards. In this position, you will be expected to communicate effectively with technical support associates to resolve equipment problems quickly. You will assist operations leadership and engineers with project work and improvement efforts, ensuring product quality through timely completion of action plans and accurate SAP & MES transactions. Your ability to create a collaborative team environment and participate in continuous improvement efforts will be essential to your success in this role. You will also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization in the manufacturing areas, adhering to 5S standards, and performing other duties as required by the business.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure associates are trained in a consistent manner to comply with all safety, quality and operational procedures.
  • Support and implement the train-the-trainer process in assigned areas.
  • Participate in identifying associates who are qualified to train and assimilate approved trainers to the training process.
  • Conduct individual associate training in the event of an absence or shortage of qualified trainers.
  • Provide operational support to manufacturing Supervisor or Business Lead to support safety, efficiency, PPH, quality, and all production goals.
  • Provide day-to-day machine operator support when production demands require.
  • Run machines and support co-workers in achieving safety, quality and output objectives.
  • Act as a general operations support in carrying out responsibilities.
  • Assist supervision with timely updates on production output and any issues that may hinder achieving production targets.
  • Support and participate in Tiered Management System updates & metric tracking, Daily Team Maintenance activities, 5S and all BDPS component team activities.
  • Support technicians in assigned manufacturing areas, assist with monitoring production machinery and basic troubleshooting.
  • Communicate quickly and effectively with technical support associates to ensure rapid response and resolution to equipment problems/machine downtime.
  • Assist operations leadership and engineers/technicians with project work, improvement efforts and blitzes as necessary.
  • Support compliance by working with the PM team to maintain compliance.
  • Ensure product quality through accurate and timely completion of action plans to address deficiencies, DHR reviews, and rework.
  • Ensure accurate and timely SAP & MES transactions by monitoring inventories and addressing discrepancies identified.
  • Support problem resolution and assist with getting effective support from additional resources.
  • Create and encourage a collaborative, team environment in assigned manufacturing cells.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by utilizing CI practices and adhering to standard work practices.
  • Perform housekeeping as necessary to sustain 5S standards.
  • Support assigned manufacturing areas, which may change based on production demands.
  • Substitute for associates to provide coverage for meetings, unplanned absence, etc.
  • Verify that equipment & surrounding areas are clean during the shift.
  • Perform other duties as the business requires.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma/G.E.D. Required
  • Vocational/Technical School - Preferred
  • Associates Degree - Preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years as a Machine Operation or Technician
  • SAP, MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel proficiency preferred
