The Operations Support Specialist plays a crucial role in optimizing daily activities, performance, and profitability of the Metcalfe Market retail stores. Working under the direction of the Assistant Operations Director, this position collaborates with Store Directors and Department Managers to enhance operational systems, processes, and policies. The Operations Support Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating functions related to the business operations, ensuring that the stores operate efficiently and effectively. The role involves executing strategic initiatives in a timely manner, conducting in-depth analyses of proposed initiatives, and facilitating specialized projects as assigned by the Operations leadership. This position requires the creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures, coordination with various departments to optimize work production, and collaboration with Store Directors and other stakeholders to ensure that training and tools are effectively utilized. The Operations Support Specialist also leads and coaches employees, reinforcing the company culture and performance expectations, while providing expert knowledge to help department managers achieve their objectives. In addition to these responsibilities, the Operations Support Specialist is tasked with monitoring standards regarding product quality, store conditions, and customer service levels. The role demands a detail-oriented approach, with the ability to see the bigger picture and respond to management queries and special reporting requests. The position may require working weekends and holidays based on staffing needs, and the individual must stay updated with current market trends and industry forecasts.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prioritizes, and executes strategic initiatives in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Researches, analyzes, documents, and provides in-depth analysis of proposed initiatives to solve complex problems and develop operational efficiencies with an emphasis in perishables.
  • Facilitates and follows-through on specialized initiatives as assigned by the Operations leadership.
  • Responsible for creating, maintaining, and updating standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinates with different departments to achieve optimal work production across the board.
  • Collaborates with Store Directors, Director of Employee Development, Marketing and owners to ensure training, skills and tools are utilized to maintain optimal functioning and profitability.
  • Leads, coaches, teaches, and reinforces Metcalfe's culture, customer service, and performance expectations to all employees.
  • Trains and coaches others to develop talent in-store. Serves as a mentor to the staff and management.
  • Provides expert knowledge through instruction, coaching and development, to enable department managers to achieve store objectives.
  • Coaches department managers in all aspects of financial management: sales planning; ordering; inventory management; merchandising for sales and profits; labor scheduling.
  • Sets and monitors standards, within prescribed Company guidelines, regarding quality, variety, and general appearance of products, store conditions and levels of customer service.
  • Responsible for ensuring the highest level of customer service and hospitality throughout the stores; including complaint resolution with a positive demeanor.
  • Demonstrates passion for the brands, products, services, and solutions offered to customers.
  • Responds to management queries and special reporting requests.
  • Keeps up to date with the current market trends and industry forecasts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, such as stepping in as MOD or Department Manager as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Five years or more of grocery retail management/leadership experience preferred.
  • Two years or more of perishable grocery management/leadership experience required.
  • Ability to multi-task several initiatives at a time and work independently.
  • Intermediate use of Microsoft software programs including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Teams.
