About the position

The Operations & System Specialist III - Radiology position is a pivotal role that provides leadership and specialized support for information technology equipment and systems within the Radiology department. This position is essential for facilitating collaboration between users and external businesses, ensuring that Radiologists receive the necessary IT support and solutions. The specialist will work closely with Radiology research users to understand their IT goals and challenges, providing technical expertise for the implementation and support of specialized research software and hardware, all while adhering to the standards and practices set by Washington University Radiology. In this role, the specialist will be responsible for reviewing vendor documentation, analyzing deployment options, and determining their applicability to the Radiology environment. They will create implementation plans, review these plans with the team, and oversee the scheduling, implementation, and testing of new systems. The position requires a strong understanding of leadership concepts, as the specialist will monitor the impact of time, finances, resources, and quality of services or projects. They will rely on their expertise and judgment to plan and monitor the work of the technical unit, ensuring successful implementation and maintenance of assigned objectives and programs. Additionally, the Operations & System Specialist III will serve as a technical mentor for less experienced staff, guiding them in system and desktop matters. The role demands strong technical skills to assist and guide staff effectively, and the ability to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate collaboration between users and external businesses, providing IT solutions and support for Radiologists.
  • Provide technical expertise for the implementation and support of specialized research software/hardware in Radiology.
  • Review vendor documentation and analyze deployment options for applicability to the Radiology environment.
  • Create and review implementation plans with the team, schedule, implement, and test new systems.
  • Monitor the impact of time, finances, resources, and quality of services or projects.
  • Plan and monitor the work of the technical unit, ensuring successful implementation and maintenance of objectives and programs.
  • Serve as a technical mentor for less experienced technical staff regarding system and desktop matters.
  • Utilize strong technical skills to guide and assist staff in their roles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in IT or related field required plus a minimum of three years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in a dynamic, fast-paced, complex IT user environment.
  • Experience working in higher education and coordinating technology implementations in an enterprise IT environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical issues and adjust to changes in priorities.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision with a high degree of accuracy and learn quickly.
  • Good organizational skills and excellent language and people skills.
  • Ability to understand, be accountable for, and complete assigned tasks associated with projects.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and demonstrate a proactive approach to problem solving.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree plus five years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in project management for high impact and complex projects.
  • Significant knowledge of highly technical and specialized phases of software systems programming.
