About the position

The Operations Systems Specialist 1 position at Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division (MLGW) is an entry-level role focused on providing support for the Outage Management System (OMS) and Distribution Management System (DMS) for electric utility services. This position is crucial for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of utility services provided to over 440,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County. The specialist will engage in various tasks including analysis, coding, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the OMS and DMS, as well as any related technologies and applications such as Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and ESRI systems. In this role, the specialist will be responsible for specifying, designing, coding, testing, integrating, and documenting software change requests and internal user requests for the OMS system applications. This includes problem-solving, continuous improvement, and standardization efforts for OMS-related work processes. The specialist will utilize OMS system tools to provide System Operators and internal users with the necessary customer information and data to perform their work functions effectively. Collaboration with other departments will be essential to interface with other MLGW systems that support internal and external customer needs. Responsibilities

  • Provide entry-level support for the Outage Management System (OMS) and Distribution Management System (DMS).
  • Engage in analysis, coding, maintenance, and troubleshooting of OMS and DMS.
  • Specify, design, code, test, integrate, and document software change requests for OMS applications.
  • Utilize OMS system tools to supply System Operators and internal users with necessary customer information and data.
  • Collaborate with other departments to interface with other MLGW systems for customer support and information sharing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in OMS, DMS, or related fields such as cybersecurity, networking, programming, or system analysis.
  • Knowledge of computer operating systems and database administration.
  • Familiarity with OMS/DMS/DA applications and distribution engineering theory.
  • Valid driver's license from state of residence.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and ESRI systems.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to electric utilities.
