About the position

The Operations Technician II/Plant Operator at Air Products is responsible for supporting the operation of the Gulf Coast Ammonia facility in Texas City, which includes a Steam Methane Reformer, Air Separation Plant, and Ammonia Plant. This role involves monitoring and controlling production processes, ensuring safety and operational excellence, and participating in emergency response activities. The technician will work in a 24/7 environment, supporting shift operations and maintaining equipment and processes during both start-up and operational phases.

Responsibilities

  • Control and monitor processes that produce hydrogen, nitrogen, and ammonia.
  • Maintain water chemistry and perform daily operational tasks and preventative maintenance.
  • Work with site supervisors and shift team leads to monitor facility operations.
  • Adhere to operating and communication protocols for supply/demand balance changes.
  • Support operation priorities based on system status and maintenance activities.
  • Escalate process and safety issues as per protocol.
  • Ensure up-to-date training on safety policies and operational procedures.
  • Execute the Emergency Response Plan and participate in emergency drills.
  • Assist in investigations of incidents and environmental excursions.
  • Enforce safe work procedures and operational discipline practices.
  • Maintain detailed understanding of facility Environmental Permits.
  • Act as the Hazwoper Technician and lead the Mobile Ammonia Suppression Team.
  • Provide technical support during shutdowns and troubleshooting expertise.

Requirements

  • Strong operations aptitude and commitment to operational excellence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude and team-oriented mindset.
  • Good computer skills, including SAP and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proven commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years of work experience in a manufacturing or chemical environment required.
  • Availability to work in a 12-hr shift rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certificate in process technology or maintenance field (preferred).
  • Previous pipeline controller experience (preferred).
