About the position
The Operations Technician at WTAE-TV is responsible for maintaining the technical integrity of the station's on-air signals and equipment from acquisition to distribution. This role involves operating various broadcast equipment and ensuring high-quality video and audio levels. The technician will report to the Assistant Chief Engineer and will be expected to work independently while managing multiple tasks efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Use computers and software for file-based workflows including media preparation, playlist management, record schedule management, and shot recall for robotic cameras.
- Operate robotic studio cameras, transmitter remote equipment, master control and production control room video switchers, audio mixers, HD video servers, and related automation software.
- Judge video and audio levels and quality using video, audio, and waveform quality control monitors.
- Maintain and understand the lighting grid and control board, including changing and adjusting lighting fixtures as needed.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by Engineering Management.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience working as an operations technician at a commercial television station with experience operating different broadcast equipment.
- Solid background in operation of broadcast television systems and equipment.
- Capability of high degree of independent thought and action.
- Ability to make judgments quickly and perform tasks on schedule with a very low rate of error.
- Highly computer literate.
- Reliable and punctual, able to work varied shifts including overnight, holidays, and weekends.
- Related military experience will be considered.
