About the position

The California Independent System Operator (ISO) is seeking an Operations Training Coordinator to contribute to the strategy and instructional integrity of curriculum development and facilitation of training programs for ISO Operations personnel, other ISO departments, and external entities as required. This role is pivotal in supporting the planning, scheduling, logistics, tracking, metrics, and compliance of Grid Operations training. The Operations Training Coordinator will work closely with internal and external trainers and subject matter experts (SMEs) to coordinate training events and develop the necessary training documentation. Additionally, the coordinator will assist in preparing and submitting documents, reports, presentations, or correspondence for regulatory and industry requirements, as well as for other purposes as needed. The position involves supporting training-related activities facilitated through various meetings, reports, and assorted administrative tasks. The coordinator will utilize technical expertise in remote training, e-learning, and computer-based training to assist with changes in the roadmap and enhancements to the future of Operations Training. Participation in industry-related training and activities is essential to remain abreast of industry standards and leading-edge technology for e-learning, remote training, and computer-based training. The coordinator will also assist in determining operator needs related to training and provide subject matter expertise to ISO business units regarding training-related issues. In addition to these responsibilities, the Operations Training Coordinator will support software upgrades for Learning Management System-related database builds, coordinate and perform system maintenance and improvement activities, and ensure that training developed and delivered by all instructors follows the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT). The coordinator will develop course schedules, communicate training opportunities, and ensure logistics for Operations Training courses are executed appropriately. The role also includes analyzing existing training material to determine the appropriateness of converting delivery methods from instructor-led to e-learning, providing technical support for the design and development of training material, and maintaining training-related data and curriculum in training databases and the Learning Management System.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the strategy and instructional integrity of curriculum development and facilitation of training programs for ISO Operations personnel and other departments.
  • Support planning, scheduling, logistics, tracking, metrics, and compliance of Grid Operations training.
  • Coordinate training events and develop associated training documentation with internal and external trainers and SMEs.
  • Assist with preparation and submission of documents, reports, presentations, or correspondence for regulatory and industry requirements.
  • Utilize technical expertise in remote training, e-learning, and computer-based training to enhance Operations Training.
  • Participate in industry-related training to stay updated on standards and technology for e-learning and remote training.
  • Support software upgrades for Learning Management System-related database builds.
  • Coordinate and perform system maintenance and improvement activities for Learning Management Systems.
  • Monitor training delivery to ensure compliance with the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT).
  • Develop course schedules and communicate training opportunities to employees.
  • Coordinate and schedule training sessions for ISO personnel and external entities.
  • Ensure logistics for Operations Training courses are executed appropriately.
  • Assist with administration of Operations Trainee/New Dispatcher Training and Continuous Training Programs.
  • Analyze existing training material for conversion to e-learning delivery methods.
  • Provide technical support for the design and development of training material for e-learning compliance with NERC CE program and Standards requirements.

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent education, training, or experience in Adult Education, Web-based Instructional design, or related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of related experience.
  • Experience with QTS/QTD Learning Management System is a plus.
  • Project coordination experience with the ability to manage detailed assignments and multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
  • Knowledge of learning assessment methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of the ISO Tariff, Protocols, CAISO Reliability and Market operations preferred.
  • Electric industry experience preferred.
  • Previous experience training electrical system operators and system dispatchers preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • NERC System Operator Certification preferred but not required.
  • Strong writing, communication, and documentation skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to think through complex technical problems and implement feasible solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to design and develop training programs using various mediums.
  • Ability to research and implement new learning approaches and technologies.
