About the position

The Operations Training Specialist at INEOS Acetyls is a pivotal role focused on enhancing the operational capabilities of the plant through comprehensive training programs. This position is responsible for hands-on training on equipment and processes, emphasizing Life Saving Rules and permitting, as well as troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques. The primary goal of the Operations Training Specialist is to ensure that the plant meets its safety, quality, and manufacturing targets while aligning with the company's broader objectives. The role requires a deep understanding of both internal and external factors that influence operations, including organizational plans, resource availability, economic conditions, and industry trends. In this role, the Operations Training Specialist will be accountable for several key areas. Firstly, they will lead training initiatives focused on Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) excellence, ensuring that operators are well-versed in emergency procedures and the use of safety equipment. This includes training on how to respond to various emergencies, such as power loss, fires, and other unusual situations. The specialist will also be responsible for reviewing safety metrics to identify trends and develop training programs to address any gaps. Participation in incident investigations and corrective action implementations is also a critical aspect of this accountability. Secondly, the specialist will establish and execute a robust training process for operations, which includes developing training plans, qualification processes, and refresher training. They will lead the evaluation of the training program to ensure it remains relevant and effective in meeting site needs. This involves monitoring operator competency and compliance, conducting regular meetings with line managers to discuss training needs, and maintaining up-to-date training materials. The specialist will also conduct assessments of operators to ensure they meet competency standards and will be responsible for coordinating training classes based on the training plan. Lastly, the Operations Training Specialist will assist in the development and execution of plant orientation and onboarding activities, support management in budget development for craft training, and ensure that training outcomes are kept confidential. The role requires a high level of organization, initiative, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders to foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Train operators on Emergency Procedures and the use of safety equipment and systems.
  • Ensure all operational and safety training is fully implemented and reinforced.
  • Review safety metrics to identify trends and develop training for gap closure.
  • Participate in investigations and corrective action implementations for significant incidents.
  • Establish and execute the training process including training plan development and qualification processes.
  • Lead the execution and evaluation of the training program for the manufacturing department.
  • Develop qualification pathways and identify training opportunities.
  • Monitor operator competency and compliance using established metrics.
  • Conduct weekly progress and competency reviews with trainees.
  • Create, maintain, and update operations training materials on a specific frequency.
  • Coordinate Operator training classes based on the training plan.
  • Assist in the development and execution of plant orientation and onboarding activities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Operator experience in chemical manufacturing.
  • 2+ years of training experience required.
  • 2+ years Console Operator experience preferred.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience preferred.
  • Process Technology degree preferred.
  • Must possess or obtain a TWIC card prior to the first day of employment.
  • Must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the U.S.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
  • Knowledgeable and hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment such as reactors, distillation units, and boilers.
  • Strong knowledge of chemicals and their safe handling.
  • Strong process troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook and SAP.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (i.e., OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, RCRA).
