About the position

The Operator I - Water Production position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's water pumping facilities. This role is crucial in regulating the flow of water to various zones within the water system, ensuring that safe and adequate water supplies are available throughout the City. The operator will be tasked with operating various pump equipment and production facilities that support the City's water system. Key duties include inspecting all pumps, gauges, and water equipment for leaks or malfunctions, diagnosing needed repairs, and performing maintenance and repairs as necessary. The operator will also conduct regular testing of equipment and machinery to maintain quality assurance and high performance standards. Additionally, the role involves performing chemical tests of water supplies, determining chemical needs, calculating dosages, and adding appropriate chemicals to the water as required. The operator is expected to maintain a variety of reports, logs, meters, and charts daily to ensure proper operation of the plant, as well as perform daily checks to discover and troubleshoot mechanical problems. Grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, weed eating, edging, and watering may also be part of the job. The operator will assist the plant mechanic when needed and may be assigned other duties as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate chemical dosages and add appropriate chemicals to water as needed.
  • Maintain reports, logs, meters, and charts on a daily basis for proper operation of the plant.
  • Perform daily plant checks to discover and troubleshoot mechanical problems.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance including mowing, weed eating, edging, and watering.
  • Assist plant mechanic when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year experience involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of water equipment and related systems, preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 12 months ODEQ Class 'D' Water Operator License or higher.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with supervisors, peers, salesmen, and suppliers, both verbally and in written form.
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics of water pump equipment and tools used in maintenance and repair.
  • Basic math skills.
