About the position

The Operator III (Mechanic) position at Veolia North America involves operating and maintaining high-pressure boilers, water treatment systems, air compressors, and related equipment. The role requires performing preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The operator will work under general supervision and is expected to maintain efficient operations while adhering to established procedures and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment according to established procedures; inspects, calibrates, adjusts, lubricates, and repairs or replaces components.
  • Operates high pressure boilers, fuel, steam, water, and compressed air systems in a safe and reliable manner with minimum supervision.
  • Diagnoses system malfunctions on mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical equipment; dismantles and repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Responds to calls for emergency repairs; completes repairs and documents services rendered.
  • Performs all work in a safe manner that meets or exceeds OSHA regulations and established policies.
  • Performs and documents scheduled inspections and operational safety tests necessary to maintain conformance to code requirements.
  • Maintains records in compliance with state and company requirements.
  • Assists management in developing and maintaining operating procedures and budgets.
  • Establishes and maintains courteous relations with customers and company personnel.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent with the ability to read, write and comprehend English.
  • Trade/technical/vocational area training strongly preferred.
  • Over five years' experience in a related position and environment with knowledge of steam plant operations methods and techniques.
  • Ability to perform basic math equations.
  • Proficiency in the care and use of site-specific PPE, including respirators and gas detectors.
  • Ability to operate all machines and equipment meeting processing and quality targets under general supervision.
  • Ability to diagnose process problems and troubleshoot equipment effectively.
  • Working ability to use computer programs for process control.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and assume additional responsibilities readily.
  • Ability to lift weights up to 100 pounds and carry equipment.

  • Experience with high-pressure boiler operations.
