About the position

The Operator Trainee position at CVR Energy involves a comprehensive training program designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills to operate, maintain, and repair plant equipment effectively. The role is critical in ensuring that the assigned area operates safely and meets production standards. Operators will be responsible for handling emergency situations, monitoring equipment, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. The position requires working 12-hour rotating shifts, which may include weekends and holidays, and offers a structured schedule of 36 hours one week and 48 hours the next, with built-in overtime. The starting pay is competitive at $29.12 per hour, with potential increases based on performance and skill acquisition, reaching up to $51.53 per hour after the probationary period. In addition to the operational responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to analyze data, control continuous operations of nitrogen processing units, and ensure that all equipment operates within specified quality and quantity parameters. This includes reading and interpreting specifications, schedules, and logs, as well as performing regular inspections and maintenance on equipment. The role also emphasizes the importance of safety, requiring adherence to all company policies and procedures, and the ability to work in various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and confined spaces. The Operator Trainee will undergo a rigorous training program, which includes passing both written and practical exams during the 180-day probationary period. Successful completion of in-house training and testing is mandatory for continued employment. Candidates must also obtain a Transportation Worker's Identification Credential (TWIC) card and demonstrate a willingness to adapt to frequent changes in the work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and repair plant equipment as assigned.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot equipment to ensure safe operations.
  • Analyze data and control continuous operation of nitrogen processing units.
  • Regulate temperature, pressure, flow rate, and tank levels according to process schedules.
  • Read and analyze specifications, schedules, logs, and test results to adjust equipment controls as needed.
  • Inspect equipment and perform troubleshooting to identify malfunctions.
  • Repair, lubricate, and maintain equipment or report malfunctions to supervisors.
  • Compile and record operating data, instrument readings, and laboratory analysis results.
  • Operate auxiliary equipment and control multiple processing units during operations.
  • Adjust unit controls to ensure safe and efficient operational conditions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two-year degree in Process Technology is preferred.
  • Previous experience operating refrigeration, pumping & conveyor systems is desired.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills are essential.
  • General computer proficiency, including Word and Excel, is required.
  • Fluent in English, both oral and written, is necessary.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are important.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to advance in the role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with mobile equipment operation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage is beneficial.
