Operator

About the position

The Operator position at Evonik Corporation involves performing various tasks related to plant operations while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, health, and security procedures. The role requires monitoring equipment, making necessary adjustments, and maintaining accurate records, all while promoting a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs all work activities in compliance with site safety, environmental, health and security procedures and policies.
• Continually monitors plant operations and carries out necessary manual work as well as visual checks.
• Makes adjustments to the process equipment as needed.
• Operates or monitors equipment such as reactors, filters, pumps, compressors, calciners, and impregnators.
• Observes the progress of production and reports any malfunctions.
• Performs minor repair work.
• Keeps work area clean.
• Maintains accurate records as required.
• Operates a forklift.
• Fills, unloads, and transports containers of all raw and auxiliary materials and ensures proper storage.
• Informs supervisor/manager concerning deficiencies and/or bottlenecks detected.
• Operates all environmental control equipment in the plant and takes corrective action in case of malfunctions.
• Under certain conditions, performs analysis work as required.
• Works primarily in the production building and is exposed to numerous chemicals and adverse environmental conditions.

Requirements

• HS Diploma/GED
• At least one year of chemical experience is desirable.
• Skills in operating control equipment and measuring equipment used in the plant are desirable.
• Ability to quickly recognize production irregularities or malfunctions and take appropriate action.
• Ability to make minor repairs as needed.
• Ability to climb stairs frequently and assist in making repairs to pumps, pipe systems, and equipment assemblies.
• Occasionally carries out transportation and loading/unloading work.
• Able to work at elevated locations and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Exposed to environmental conditions such as noise from blowers and strong odors.
