About the position

The Ophthalmic Clinical Coordinator at St. Elizabeth Physicians is a full-time role responsible for providing clinical support to physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) while also mentoring and coaching ophthalmic clinical associates. This position ensures efficient patient flow, compliance with healthcare regulations, and maintains high standards of service and satisfaction. The coordinator plays a key role in training new employees, overseeing clinical operations, and promoting teamwork within the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Assist manager with interviewing candidates and make hiring recommendations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide corrective action/counseling.
  • Train and orient new employees.
  • Coordinate schedules, workflow, and delegate assignments.
  • Monitor performance and quality of clinical associates.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA/CLIA/HIPAA regulations.
  • Oversee supply ordering and drug samples.
  • Accurate documentation in patient records and EMR.
  • Provide patient care and clinical support during exams.
  • Provide instructions to patients under provider direction.
  • Track surgical and laser procedures for providers.
  • Maintain adequate supply levels in exam rooms.
  • Clean and disinfect exam rooms following protocols.
  • Assist with completion of patient requests in a timely manner.
  • Complete referral processes and outpatient test scheduling accurately.
  • File and distribute patient information and incoming mail promptly.
  • Increase efficiency in the office operations.
  • Interact with Central Billing Office to resolve patient issues.
  • Answer telephones promptly and assist patients.
  • Fill in as a technician based on clinical needs.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues when necessary.
  • Perform technician assessments quarterly on each technician.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmology Technician (COT) certification required.
  • 1+ years of experience in an Ophthalmology medical practice required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual skills to communicate with patients in a language other than English.
