About the position

The Ophthalmic Scribe at Heart of America Eye Care plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and productivity of physicians in a clinical setting. This full-time position focuses on anticipating physician needs, clear communication with patients and staff, and effective multitasking to facilitate clinic flow. The role requires previous medical scribe experience, preferably in ophthalmology, and offers a supportive work environment with a strong emphasis on work-life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform proper documentation of case history and ophthalmic exams as directed by the physician.
  • Accurately document ophthalmic procedures during examinations.
  • Provide patients with self-care instructions and follow-up information as directed by the physician.
  • Coordinate patient scheduling and monitor patient flow, communicating any delays effectively.
  • Obtain eyeglass prescriptions via lensometer and perform patient testing as directed.
  • Assist retina physicians with intraocular injections when assigned.
  • Communicate physician instructions to patients and document accordingly.
  • Assist with pharmacy and patient calls as needed.
  • Ensure the scheduling template is followed and patient lanes are clean and stocked at the end of the day.
  • Complete daily tech station duties and ensure all equipment is turned off and covered properly.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and positive attitude while representing the practice.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree or Associate Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Two years of ophthalmology scribe or technician experience preferred.
  • Must complete the home study ophthalmic program within six months of employment.
  • JCAHPO COA Certification required within 18 months of employment.
  • Prefer COT Certification.
  • Proficient computer skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with proper grammar and writing capability.
  • Team-oriented, self-directed, and highly motivated.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a caring, patient attitude.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in ophthalmology scribing or as a technician.
  • Certification in ophthalmic technology (COT) preferred.
