About the position

The Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe position at CRA MSO LLC in Chula Vista, CA, is a full-time role focused on providing compassionate and service-oriented care to patients. The technician will be responsible for conducting initial patient assessments, documenting medical histories, and assisting in various ophthalmic procedures while ensuring a smooth patient flow and compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Escort all patients from the waiting room for data collection.
  • Advise patients on who will see them next and regularly check on their comfort while waiting.
  • Educate new patients regarding office procedures.
  • Inform patients of the purpose of all tests performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
  • Obtain patient histories, perform prescription verification, and maintain records.
  • Assist in testing patient vision, including far and near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception.
  • Measure intraocular pressure with a Tonometer.
  • Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
  • Prepare patients for imaging and physician exams.
  • Prep patients for ophthalmic procedures, including intraocular injections.
  • Maintain a smooth flow of patients to the physician.
  • Communicate with reception and lead to facilitate proper patient flow.
  • Comply with all HIPAA regulations in all interactions with patient information.

Requirements

  • Experience with taking patient history, evaluating patient problems, and providing complete documentation in patient record.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record scribing.
  • Ability to sterilize and maintain ophthalmology equipment and supplies in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
  • Strong ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public and medical personnel.
  • General knowledge of laboratory hygiene, biohazard handling, and universal precautions.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is highly desired.
  • Strong work ethic, professionalism, attention to detail, and communication skills.
