About the position

Central Florida Retina is seeking a full-time Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe to support the operations of its busy ophthalmology practices in Orlando, Oviedo, and Kissimmee. The role involves performing a variety of ophthalmic procedures, assisting with patient care, and ensuring accurate documentation in electronic health records. The ideal candidate will be organized, possess strong communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing education and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the smooth operations of the ophthalmology practice by performing basic, advanced, and complex procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with patients regarding retina procedures.
  • Perform patient workups by preparing patients for physician exams.
  • Conduct tests such as tonometry, confrontational field testing, Amsler grids, muscle testing, and pupil exams.
  • Document patient exams in the electronic health record, including diagnoses, treatment plans, and medications.
  • Greet patients, room them, and walk them to the appropriate department.
  • Ensure patient charts are accurate and complete.
  • Interview patients and document histories efficiently and accurately.
  • Utilize proper eye drop technique and maintain sterility during procedures.
  • Assist with minor procedures and ophthalmic imaging.
  • Communicate with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, and changes in schedule.
  • Return phone calls to patients and pharmacies.
  • Clean and maintain all equipment according to sterile technique.
  • Assess common safety hazards and establish a safe work environment.
  • Maintain compliance with Medicare and other insurance documentation requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of ophthalmic experience preferred.
  • Understanding of ophthalmic practice workflow and patient care.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and demonstrate flexibility in work assignments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Spanish language skills preferred.
