About the position

The Ophthalmic Technician at Semel Vision Care is responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support in a clinical setting. This role involves assisting with various ophthalmic procedures, maintaining patient records, and ensuring efficient workflow between patients and doctors. The technician will work closely with physicians and optometrists, demonstrating strong customer service and communication skills while adhering to office policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Establish great patient rapport and provide excellent customer service.
• Take detailed and complete patient histories in a timely manner.
• Accurately perform pre-testing according to office policy and procedure.
• Triaging phone calls and refilling prescriptions as part of back office procedures.
• Assist in minor procedures and prepare patients for laser procedures such as blepharoplasty, injections, YAG, and SLT.
• Prepare necessary paperwork for surgeries ordered by physicians according to office policies and procedures.
• Educate patients in the office and on the telephone, ensuring appropriate documentation in charts.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
• Cross-train in back and front office procedures as needed.
• Help maintain back office inventory and supplies.

Requirements

• Strong customer service skills and ability to build rapport with patients.
• Proficient computer and typing skills (greater than 50 wpm).
• Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR).
• Ability to follow instructions and gain additional skills/knowledge.
• Strong multitasking abilities and effective communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with LASIK procedures.
• Scribing experience is a plus.
• Certification as a COA or COT is recommended but not mandatory.
• Experience in performing diagnostic tests such as Humphrey Visual Field, OCT scans, A-scans, and Corneal Topography.
