About the position

The Opioid Overdose Prevention Consultant position at MPHI is focused on managing and supporting the Michigan Opioid Settlement Fund prevention program. This role involves enhancing opioid data collection, providing education to providers, and advancing strategies for opioid overdose prevention and response. The consultant will act as a liaison between various teams and organizations, ensuring effective communication and collaboration in addressing substance use disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of the MI Opioid Settlement strategies and activities with support of the Unintentional Injury Prevention Manager
  • Serve as a program specialist with contracted organizations enhancing local opioid data surveillance and provider opioid education efforts
  • Act as a liaison between MDHHS Opioid Policy Staff and Unintentional Injury Prevention Unit
  • Serve as liaison between MDHH Opioid Task Force and Unintentional Injury Prevention Unit during workgroups and general meetings
  • Participate in weekly/bi-weekly and/or monthly meetings with MDHHS Opioid Policy Staff and Opioid Task Force Meetings/Workgroups
  • Provide subcontract monitoring including annual work plan review, work plan reports and guidance on work plan deliverables
  • Conduct subcontract monitoring including site visits, desk audits, ongoing technical assistance, expenditures and budget review
  • Learn and use the EGrAMS system for contract monitoring
  • Communicate with contractors and partners regularly including monthly technical assistance calls and trainings
  • Provide technical assistance/liaison to communities working on opioid overdose prevention
  • Participate in the development and implementation of a statewide strategic plan related to prescription opioid and substance use/misuse and overdose prevention
  • Participate in the development and execution of the Michigan Opioid Settlement budget
  • Participate in technical assistance opportunities from MDHHS Department of Policy and Planning
  • Monitor and report activities for MDHHS Department of Policy and Planning
  • Collaborate with program evaluator, program epidemiologist, and other staff to facilitate monitoring of performance measures
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings and webinars on opioid overdose prevention
  • Engage with communities served, representing the program and increasing communication and collaboration
  • Participate in any Unit, MDHHS and Inter-departmental cross-cutting initiatives
  • Represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in any major
  • A minimum of one-year related experience in substance use disorder, health education and outreach, and project management at the state or community level
  • Experience with partnership-building, public health program development and implementation, contract evaluation is preferred
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of substance use disorder
  • Ability to self-initiate work and complete all deadlines
  • Ability to establish priorities and set goals
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to coordinate activities and resolve conflicts
  • Ability to be organized and track a large number of activities and projects
  • Ability to be culturally proficient
  • Ability to incorporate health equity and social justice into daily work
  • Ability to maintain relationships with multiple partners in various locations and professions
  • Knowledge of opioids, opioid addiction, and strategies to address opioid addiction
  • Report writing experience
  • Familiarity with State government and procedures for contracting and reporting
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office programs
