About the position

Join Axient as a Senior Engineer in the Integration Engineering of Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) system software and Modeling and Simulation activities. This role focuses on Space to Ground integration at Government integration laboratories and Space Force operational ground sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing modeling and simulation Systems of Systems integration with OPIR ground to support mission integration and performance. You will assess testing and analysis of ground processing software, participate in enterprise-level testing, and provide recommendations to the government on resolving issues. In this position, you will recommend modeling and simulation needs for the OPIR program and perform assessments of contractor deliverables and design reviews. You will conduct mission assessments of technical and schedule readiness for satellites and ground systems, working closely with development contractors to witness factory performance testing, requirements verification, and functional validation. Additionally, you will develop support plans for system transportation to integration laboratories and operations sites, supporting the Government in factory and site acceptance of hardware and software deliveries. As a Senior Engineer, you will build a collaborative team of system engineers and test specialists to execute systems integration and end-to-end system testing. You will oversee the development, coordination, and execution of Integration Schedules affecting multiple stakeholders and the development and execution of system of systems integration and test plans. This role will also involve working with the OPIR Modeling & Analysis Center (OMAC) for performance evaluation of systems under integration and test, as well as overseeing the transition of SBIRS to FORGE, Next Gen GEO Interim Operations (NIO), and NGG SV1 to FORGE, followed by Space to Ground Integration of Next Gen Polar (NGP) and MEO Layer.

Responsibilities

  • Provide modeling and simulation Systems of Systems integration with OPIR ground in support of mission integration and mission performance.
  • Provide assessment of testing and analysis of ground processing software.
  • Participate in enterprise level testing and provide recommendations to government on resolution of issues.
  • Recommend modeling and simulation needs for the OPIR program.
  • Perform assessment of contractor deliverable and design reviews.
  • Perform mission assessments of technical and schedule readiness for satellites and ground system.
  • Work with development contractors to witness factory performance testing, requirements verification, functional validation and conduct physical and functional configuration audits.
  • Develop support plans for system transportation to integration laboratories and operations sites and supports Government in factory and site acceptance of hardware and software deliveries.

  • Oversee the development, coordination and execution of Integration Schedules affecting multiple stakeholders.
  • Oversee the development and execution of system of systems integration and test plans. Work closely with OPIR Modeling & Analysis Center (OMAC) for performance evaluation of systems under integration and test.
  • Work SBIRS transition to FORGE, Next Gen GEO Interim Operations (NIO), and NGG SV1 transition to FORGE. This will be followed by Space to Ground Integration of Next Gen Polar (NGP) and MEO Layer.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (required). Work experience may be substituted for degree.
  • Minimum of 15 years relevant experience (required) in development, implementation and integration of payload satellite and ground missions and launch missions, assembly, integration, launch & operations.
  • Must have an active and transferrable DoD security clearance with current investigation - TS required; SCI desired. Must be able to maintain the required clearance (required).
  • Familiarity with Space System Command (Formerly Space and Missile Systems Center) space and ground satellite systems desired.
  • Strong leadership skills leading diverse teams of subject matter experts, technicians, and specialist in detailed, highly technical, HW and SW integration and test activities.
  • Ability to communicate to Government action officers of varying experience and technical backgrounds.
  • Experience developing and providing informational and decisions briefing to senior Government officials.
  • Ability to interact and coordinate with development contractors to determine 'best value' alternatives for implementation.
  • Ability to lead and communicate to geographically distributed and remote work staffs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Good working knowledge of space-based sensing systems, preferably in both Geosynchronous and Highly Elliptical orbital regimes.
  • Experience in Space to Ground compatibility testing and integration activities.
  • Knowledge of spacecraft initialization, calibration, tuning and transition to operations activities for OPIR Strategic Missile Warning systems.
  • Understanding of Spacecraft and terrestrial communications subsystems.
  • Excellent and detail-oriented organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills.
  • Advanced-level competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
