About the position

The OPS Health Support Technician plays a crucial role in the School Health program, providing both direct and indirect nursing support services primarily in a school setting. This position is supervised by the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor and involves working closely with students, faculty, and families to ensure health needs are met according to Florida School Health Administrative Guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect nursing support services to students in a school setting.
  • Determine the purpose of student health room visits, including taking vital signs and providing first aid.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school nurse, faculty, and family members.
  • Document health room visits and complete individual student treatment plans.
  • Notify parents/guardians/principal of any student injuries.
  • Provide teachers with written action plans for students returning to class.
  • Conduct monthly inventory of supplies and notify school administration of needs.
  • Evaluate student medication supply and notify parents of refill needs.
  • Provide hygiene instructions to students in the health room.
  • Notify supervisor of suspected communicable disease outbreaks.
  • Ensure the health room is clean and free from safety hazards.
  • Assist with health screenings as needed and participate in public health program activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid (preferred)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certification (preferred but not required)
