About the position

The OPS Instructional Designer for the Shelter Medicine Program is responsible for developing and supporting educational programs aimed at veterinary students and professionals. This role involves creating engaging course content, advising faculty on instructional design, and ensuring the accessibility and effectiveness of online and in-person courses. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in instructional design and a commitment to enhancing student learning experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and guide faculty in designing comprehensive educational programs.
  • Develop new course content and major revisions in collaboration with faculty.
  • Order and maintain Canvas course shells, ensuring functionality and accessibility.
  • Support faculty in updating course syllabi and complying with institutional requirements.
  • Solicit and evaluate student and faculty feedback for course improvements.
  • Analyze curriculum issues and propose solutions to enhance educational goals.
  • Provide information and support to students regarding academic programs and progress.
  • Write and distribute announcements related to courses and activities.
  • Identify and assist students who are not progressing as expected.
  • Maintain and archive course development project folders.
  • Coordinate program operations and facilitate team meetings.

Requirements

  • Education or equivalent experience in pedagogy and adult learning principles.
  • Experience in instructional design and learning management systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to learn software tools like WordPress, Basecamp, MailChimp, Canvas, Zoom, H5P, Pressbooks, and Google Suite quickly.
  • Fluency in Internet usage and research.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with faculty teams for course development.
  • Mastery of Canvas course design tools.
  • Experience in instructional design for health professions.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Familiarity with animal welfare and/or veterinary medicine.
