About the position

The Shelter Medicine Program at the University of Florida is seeking a temporary full-time Instructional Designer to enhance its educational offerings for veterinary students and professionals. This role involves developing and managing online and in-person courses, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity, and fostering an engaging learning environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong instructional design skills and a commitment to the academic success of students.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and guide faculty in designing comprehensive educational programs.
  • Develop new course content and major revisions in collaboration with faculty.
  • Order and maintain Canvas course shells, ensuring functionality and accessibility.
  • Support faculty in updating course syllabi and complying with university policies.
  • Solicit and evaluate student and faculty feedback for course improvements.
  • Analyze potential issues within the program and propose solutions.
  • Provide information and advice to students and faculty on academic programs.
  • Support student tracking for externships and program completion logistics.
  • Coordinate student accessibility accommodations as needed.
  • Create a welcoming educational environment that encourages student engagement.
  • Identify learners who are not progressing and consult with faculty to resolve barriers.
  • Maintain and archive course development project folders.
  • Provide administrative support to program operations.

Requirements

  • Education or equivalent experience in pedagogy and adult learning principles.
  • Experience in instructional design and learning management systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Working knowledge of software tools including WordPress, Canvas, and Zoom.
  • Fluency in Internet usage and research.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with faculty teams for course development.
  • Mastery of Canvas course design tools.
  • Experience in instructional design for health professions.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Familiarity with animal welfare and/or veterinary medicine.
