About the position

The OPS Painter position at the Florida Department of Health involves skilled painting and maintenance duties across various facilities in Broward County. The role requires the incumbent to communicate with clients regarding their painting needs, prepare surfaces, apply paint, and assist with general maintenance tasks. This is a temporary position that requires flexibility in working hours, including weekends and on-call duties.

Responsibilities

• Painting and assisting with day-to-day activities and operations of the general services department.
• Communicating with clients to determine their painting requirements.
• Preparing surfaces for painting by washing, filling holes, and sanding.
• Applying primer and other sealers to ensure paint adherence.
• Mixing and matching paint, stain, and other finishes to job specifications.
• Applying paint, stain, and other finishes using various tools.
• Maintaining an inventory of painting supplies and cleaning equipment.
• Reviewing and implementing work orders and assignments.
• Assisting maintenance mechanics in identifying problems and repairs.
• Responding to emergencies and security needs as required.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of documented commercial painting experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of documented commercial drywall installation, repairs, and finishing skills.
• Valid driver's license free of major infractions and access to an automobile for work purposes.
• Ability to read and understand English.

Nice-to-haves

• At least 2 years of experience with minor electrical, plumbing, grounds keeping, and carpentry.
• Ability to lift 80 pounds.
• Proficiency in using a computer.
• Two-year college degree in any field.
