The OPS Paralegal Specialist position within the Department of Health's Prosecution Services Unit (PSU) is a critical role responsible for providing legal services in the regulation of health care boards and councils. The PSU is tasked with taking administrative action against healthcare practitioners who violate the licensee's practice act. This position is supervised by the Senior Paralegal Supervisor of the Nursing Section and requires the incumbent to demonstrate good judgment and problem-solving skills to ensure that assigned work is completed efficiently, timely, and accurately. The incumbent will be responsible for creating electronic case files for new intake cases within the Nursing Section, adhering to established file maintenance protocols. This includes assigning new intake cases and ensuring that appropriate codes are entered into the LEIDS system. Additionally, the incumbent will prepare case materials for submission to the Probable Cause Panel for various professions, including Nursing, Pharmacy, Podiatry, and Respiratory Care, ensuring that all materials are submitted by established deadlines. The role may also involve performing other duties as assigned, which may vary based on the needs of the unit. To succeed in this position, the incumbent must possess the ability to compile, organize, and analyze data, as well as create reports. The ability to work independently while maintaining confidentiality is essential. The incumbent must also be able to determine work priorities and manage time effectively to ensure the timely completion of work assignments. Familiarity with case tracking systems and effective communication skills are also necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
