About the position

The Optical Characterization Research Scientist position at BlueHalo involves supporting the Optoelectronic Device and Materials Research Group within the Air Force Research Labs. The role focuses on optical characterization and spectroscopy of semiconductor materials, particularly silicon carbide, for applications in integrated photonics and quantum technologies. The candidate will engage with government customers, assist in developing new concepts, and contribute to project proposals and technology development.

Responsibilities

  • Perform optical characterization and spectroscopy of semiconductor materials.
  • Work with government customers at AFRL.
  • Support ongoing research efforts in integrated photonics and quantum photonics.
  • Assist in developing new concepts and technologies for future projects.
  • Help write project proposals related to optical characterization.
  • Conduct laboratory research and interact with technical research teams.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Optics, Physics, Electro Optics, or related Engineering fields.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in photoluminescence spectroscopy and single photon emitter characterization.
  • 1-3 years of experience in conducting laboratory research.
  • Familiarity with class 10 cleanroom processes including photolithography and metrology.
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with productivity software suites like Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Ability to communicate results clearly and prepare technical reports.
  • Willingness to collaborate with other scientists and engineers.
  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a secret clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Exposure to SiC photonic design and fabrication.
  • Experience in a government/DoD laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with statistics and materials processing.
