About the position

The Optical Manufacturing Technician position is a hands-on role focused on the manufacturing of optical materials during the 3rd shift at Danbury Mission Technologies in Danbury, CT. The technician will be responsible for performing mechanical processes, interpreting technical drawings, troubleshooting nonconformances, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This role requires attention to detail and the ability to work in a lab environment, with a shift differential included for the night hours.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on mechanical processes according to work instructions.
• Read and interpret technical drawings and technical work instructions to aid in machining and processing of optical materials.
• Identify and effectively troubleshoot minor process, material, design, or equipment nonconformances.
• Actively monitor process controls and instructions in concert with engineering and other Manufacturing Technicians.
• Assist in maintaining productivity and efficiency while meeting scheduled delivery dates through internal departmental communication and occasional external reporting.
• Read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets in handling hazardous chemicals.
• Comply with all environmental, health, and safety requirements.
• Clean machinery and maintain cleanliness of the work area.
• Support Quality Calibration to maintain compliance.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• HS Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills including usage of email.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to perform problem solving tasks.
• Willingness to work in a lab environment.
• Mechanically inclined with an aptitude for learning on-the-job.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with optical surfaces preferred.
• Strong math aptitude including knowledge of trigonometry and geometry.
