About the position

The Optical Network Development Engineer will play a crucial role in the design, deployment, and scaling of Amazon's networks that support AWS and its customers across multiple global data centers. This position focuses on delivering sustainable and repeatable solutions while ensuring the stability and efficiency of next-generation IP networks. The engineer will collaborate with a diverse team to create innovative network designs and deployment procedures, addressing both current and future technology needs.

Responsibilities

• Perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, and technology refresh.
• Design network designs, services, and deployment procedures that meet various requirements.
• Collaborate with leadership to decide on projects that support the team's mission.
• Predict and solve for problems by creating High Level Design (HLD) and Low Level Design (LLD) documents.
• Influence technology roadmaps and work with internal stakeholders.
• Construct and test solutions, providing support for deployment and operation teams.
• Automate deployment processes to increase quality and velocity.
• Work closely with internal customers to bring designs/solutions from concept to production.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of experience in IP networking fundamentals and application of IP protocols.
• 8+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP, ISIS).
• 8+ years of experience with major network operating systems (Cisco IOS, Junos).
• 3+ years of experience with Unix/Linux and scripting in Python, Perl, or shell.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent experience.
• Senior or Lead Engineer experience at other organizations.
• Expert-level certifications (e.g., CCIE, JNCIE).
• Expert-level scripting and automation skills in a network environment.
• Software development/programming skills.
