About the position

The Optical Sensing Product Design team at Apple is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the development of innovative optical sensing technologies that enhance user interaction with Apple products. This role involves leading the design, development, and validation of spectral sensing technology, ensuring that the mechanical design meets Apple's high standards for quality and performance. As a key member of a diverse team of engineers, you will be responsible for generating and validating design concepts, conducting engineering analysis, and documenting your work to support the overall project goals. Your contributions will ultimately impact millions of users, making a significant difference in their daily lives. In this position, you will identify design trade-offs and risks, applying the scientific method and good experimental design to mitigate risks early in the development process. You will conduct tolerance studies to ensure that designs are manufacturable within specified tolerances and will drive processes to meet Apple's cosmetic standards. Additionally, you will support external manufacturing vendors by assisting with process development and conducting root cause analysis for any issues encountered during testing. This role may require international travel, estimated at 15% to 25% of your time, to collaborate with manufacturing partners and ensure successful implementation of designs.
