About the position

Broadcom's Optical Systems Division (OSD) is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer with a strong background in electrical design and networking to contribute to the development and adoption of innovative Fiber Optic communication technologies. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in Broadcom's silicon photonics and co-packaged optics product development initiatives. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with factory and customer design engineers to define new product requirements, generating design reference collateral, and troubleshooting any performance issues that may arise during customer system bring-up and qualification. This position is fast-paced and highly visible, directly impacting product development execution and the division's revenue. As a Senior Applications Engineer, you will work closely with customers to define application and product requirements, developing comprehensive test plans to ensure compliance with these specifications. You will validate customer designs by leading cross-functional electrical, mechanical, and thermal design reviews. Additionally, you will assist customers with the initial system bring-up and optimization of high-speed optical links. When necessary, you will collaborate with other Broadcom divisions to resolve customer product performance issues, which may involve electrical, optical, or software challenges. You will also be responsible for generating and maintaining a library of outgoing technical product documentation, including datasheets, reference designs, and thermal/mechanical models. Conducting interoperability testing with various networking hardware and test configurations will also be part of your duties.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with customers to define application/product requirements and develop test plans to ensure compliance
• Validate customer designs by leading cross functional electrical, mechanical and thermal design reviews
• Assist customers with initial system bring up and optimization of high-speed optical links
• Collaborate with other Broadcom divisions to help resolve customer product performance issues (electrical, optical, software)
• Generate and maintain library of outgoing technical product documentation such as datasheets, reference designs and thermal/mechanical models
• Conduct interoperability testing with various networking hardware and test configurations.

Requirements

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent field of study)
• 8+ years related industry experience
• Expert knowledge of high speed (100G / 400G) Ethernet switch operation and optical link debug procedures
• Working level experience with Linux shell scripting and other scripting languages such as Python
• Experience in high-speed signal integrity design, semiconductor electronics test methods and performance related troubleshooting using digital oscilloscopes, BERTs, VNA network analyzers
• Strong understanding of networking hardware (switch, HBA, Servers) and board design including Physical Layer Components (CDRs, SerDes, FPGAs) and Industry standards (Ethernet, Fibre Channel)
• Understanding of III-V and Silicon semiconductor device physics
• Demonstrated ability to dynamically prioritize assignments and work independently.
