About the position

The Optical Technician (Optician) at Clarkson Eyecare is responsible for providing exceptional patient care while maximizing retail sales. This role involves dispensing and fitting glasses and contacts based on prescriptions from optometrists and ophthalmologists, ensuring a world-class Total Patient Experience. The technician will engage with patients to understand their needs, recommend appropriate eyewear, and maintain a positive and organized work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Promote frames and lenses recommended by the doctor to meet patient needs
  • Adjust and repair glasses
  • Facilitate patient flow
  • Verify medical and vision insurances
  • Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers
  • Answer inquiries through phone, email, and in person requests
  • Assist patients in selecting frames according to style and color
  • Educate and recommend specific lenses, lens coatings and frames to suit patient needs
  • Accurately collect measurements such as bridge, eye size, temple length, seg heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt
  • Dispense patient orders and repair and adjust patient frames
  • Maintain frame standards with cleaning, organization, full and well-presented areas
  • Follow all protocols to keep Frame inventory accurate
  • Demonstrate initiative in accomplishing practice goals
  • Create a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures in performing job duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Favorable result on Background Check
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excitement to learn and grow
  • Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year in a position interacting with customers/patients or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Healthcare Management preferred
  • ABO and NCLE certifications preferred, but not required
