About the position

The Optics Research Scientist position at BlueHalo involves supporting the Optoelectronic Device and Materials Research Group within the Air Force Research Labs. The role focuses on developing advanced concepts of photonic materials for next-generation integrated photonic chips and devices, collaborating with government customers, and contributing to project proposals and new technology development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop advanced concepts of photonic materials for integrated photonic chips and devices.
  • Support ongoing research efforts and assist in developing new concepts.
  • Help write project proposals for future projects.
  • Develop new technologies for upcoming projects.
  • Collaborate with government customers at the AFRL.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Optics, Physics, or Electro Optics with 2 years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing industry.
  • Ph.D. in Optics, Physics, or Electro Optics is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of infrared (IR) lasers and optical test instrumentation.
  • Experience testing Integrated photonic chips using edge and grading coupling techniques.
  • Good working knowledge of simulation and analysis software such as Matlab, Simulink, Python, and LabView.
  • Experience with infrared camera image processing is important.
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with productivity software suites like Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to prepare technical reports.
  • Willingness to collaborate with other scientists and engineers.
  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a secret clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience combining different software modalities for analysis and simulation.
