About the position

The Opto Mechanical Engineer/Scientist position at Boeing is focused on the development of advanced electro-optical and infrared systems for airborne and space platforms. This role is part of the rapidly growing Electro-Optical/Infra-Red Mission Systems team, which is responsible for designing, building, and testing cutting-edge sensor systems. The position involves working on the entire lifecycle of design, from initial modeling and simulation to prototype demonstrations and production systems, with a strong emphasis on meeting customer requirements and ensuring compliance throughout the engineering process.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end testing of electro-optical systems
• Analyzes customer and system requirements and develops architectural approaches and detailed specifications for various electro-optical products
• Creates and executes test plans at the unit and payload levels
• Reviews testing and analysis activity to assure compliance to requirements
• Identifies, tracks, and statuses technical performance measures to measure progress and ensure compliance with requirements
• Coordinates engineering support throughout the lifecycle of the product
• Supports research projects to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
• 2+ years of experience in Electrical or Optical Engineering
• Experience with either visual or infrared sensor design

Nice-to-haves

• 5+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience testing, troubleshooting and repairing optical components and next higher assemblies
• Active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance
• Experience with optical design for sensor systems
• Experience with design and test of avionics hardware
• Experience with design and test of avionics hardware including selection and use of radiation tolerant components
