About the position

As an Opto-Mechanical Engineer at Alcon, you will play a crucial role in the development of innovative ophthalmic medical devices. This position involves collaboration with various engineering and scientific teams to design, model, analyze, and test optical and opto-mechanical systems. You will be responsible for delivering state-of-the-art designs that meet project milestones and specifications, contributing to the overall mission of improving sight and lives through advanced technology.

Responsibilities

  • Design, model, analyze, and test optical, electro-optical, and opto-mechanical systems and components.
  • Conduct research and development in physical optics, geometric optics, and laser characteristics.
  • Develop component specifications, tolerances, simulations, and test procedures for electro-optical systems.
  • Collaborate with project leads, functional managers, and clinicians to support R&D targets and project milestones.
  • Define design specifications and tolerances in collaboration with peers and suppliers.
  • Apply engineering principles to the research and development of medical devices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in optical or mechanical engineering.
  • Expert level CAD experience, preferably with CREO.
  • Analytical skills, including data analysis using tools such as Matlab and Minitab.
  • Knowledge of optical design software, preferably ZEMAX.
  • Familiarity with ISO, FDA, MDD regulations applicable to medical device design.
