About the position

The Optometric Assistant/Receptionist plays a vital role in supporting the optometrist by providing exceptional patient care and managing both clinical and administrative tasks. This position requires a friendly and detail-oriented individual who can multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing patient needs above all.

Responsibilities

• Assist the optometrist pre-exam, during the eye exams, and procedures.
• Record patient medical histories, including vital signs and medical records.
• Manage appointment scheduling and patient flow within the office.
• Educate patients on proper contact lens care and eyewear options.
• Handle medical billing processes and ensure accurate coding for insurance claims.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms and equipment.
• Utilize medical terminology effectively when communicating with patients and staff.
• Support retail operations by applying retail math for inventory management and sales transactions.
• Collaborate with team members to enhance patient experience and office efficiency.

Requirements

• Familiarity with medical terminology related to ophthalmology is preferred.
• Knowledge of anatomy as it pertains to eye health is beneficial.
• Experience in a medical office setting is advantageous, particularly in roles involving patient interaction.
• Understanding of systems used for managing medical records and billing processes is a plus.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex information clearly to patients.
• Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous experience in retail or customer service is desirable but not mandatory.
