About the position

The Optometric Technician position at Warby Parker is a part-time role focused on providing exceptional patient care during eye exams. The technician will work closely with optometrists to ensure a smooth and efficient eye exam process, managing a high volume of patients and performing various pre-testing procedures. This role is essential in creating a stellar experience for patients while adhering to privacy regulations and maintaining organized exam rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary liaison between doctor and patient, establishing rapport with eye exam patients.
  • Perform preliminary clinical data collection including autorefraction, visual acuity, eye pressure, pupil testing, ocular motility testing, retinal imaging, and lensometry.
  • Support in-person and video-assisted eye exam appointments as available.
  • Deliver insertion and removal training for new contact lens wearers and train additional team members as directed.
  • Assist patients and store team with appointment confirmation, annual exam outreach, and contact lens follow-up.
  • Efficiently manage patient flow through the eye exam process.
  • Support the doctor in maintaining accurate records of collected data.
  • Prepare reports for other medical professionals as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to governmental regulations and privacy policies (e.g., HIPAA/PIPEDA).
  • Maintain an organized exam room by replenishing supplies and ensuring cleanliness of equipment.
  • Support the retail sales team as directed by the Store Leader.

  • Comfortable with technology and able to quickly learn new medical applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ years of experience in a medical environment supporting doctors.
  • Knowledgeable about eyewear and able to describe features and benefits accurately.
  • Working knowledge of G Suite.
  • Previous experience with optometry, electronic health records, or medical care.
  • Familiarity with healthcare technology systems and equipment (EMR systems, retinal cameras, exam room equipment).
  • Completion of an Optometric Technician training program or CPOT certification.
