About the position

The Optometric Office Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the Managing Optometrist in both technical and administrative functions within an optometric practice. This position is focused on delivering exceptional patient experiences, ensuring patient retention, and maintaining high levels of satisfaction among associates and doctors. The role encompasses a blend of clinical and administrative duties, requiring a combination of medical office skills and direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Taking patient medical histories
• Preparing patients for examinations
• Administering tests prior to the eye exam
• Assisting doctors during examinations
• Assisting with ordering glasses and contact lens supply
• Greeting and directing patients
• Answering telephones
• Updating and maintaining Electronic Medical Records
• Obtaining insurance verification and authorization
• Adjusting scheduling for priority patients
• Scheduling appointments
• Processing insurance claim forms
• Patient and insurance billing
• Optometric medical billing and coding
• Vision insurance billing and coding
• Accounts receivable and accounts payable
• Bookkeeping
• Selling contact lens supplies

Requirements

• 1-2 years of technical experience within the last 2 years
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid State Driver's License and State Minimum Insurance coverage
• Ability to provide enthusiastic and concise communication
• Ability to manage priorities through adaptability and follow-up
• Experience with personal computers preferred
