About the position

The Optometrist position at Kaiser Permanente involves performing routine optometric procedures under the supervision of an exempt optometrist. The role requires independent professional judgment to manage patients' vision and ocular health needs, ensuring compliance with California laws and regulations. The optometrist will conduct thorough patient assessments, utilize standard ophthalmic equipment, and collaborate with optical and ophthalmology teams to provide high-quality care.

Responsibilities

• Conducts and documents patient history including chief complaint and relevant symptoms.
• Performs necessary testing based on patient needs and documents findings accurately.
• Interprets data from clinical exams and makes sound clinical diagnoses.
• Documents clinical impressions and action plans, including referrals and prescriptions.
• Communicates effectively with optical and ophthalmology staff to optimize patient care.
• Attends staff meetings to stay updated on policies and events.
• Identifies and reports system problems to improve service quality.
• Maintains all licensing and job requirements, including continuing education.

Requirements

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited School of Optometry.
• Valid Optometrist License in California required at hire.
• Experience with therapeutic pharmaceutical agents (TPA) preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• 1 year of experience in optometry desired but not required.
• Certification in Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPA).
