About The Position

The Staff Optometrist position at the Salem, Oregon Community-Based Outpatient Clinic involves working collaboratively with technicians and an Ophthalmologist to provide comprehensive optometric care. The role encompasses clinical, administrative, academic, and research responsibilities, with a focus on managing patient care and ensuring high levels of productivity and patient satisfaction. Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required; non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens are not available.
  • Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed to practice optometry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccination programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting with optometric trainees.
  • Research experience in optometry or related fields.
  • Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patient care responsibilities at assigned duty stations.
  • Achieve a high level of productivity and patient satisfaction.
  • Establish effective and collaborative relationships with administration and healthcare professionals.
  • Act as a teacher and mentor to Primary Care physicians, nurses, eye technicians, and opticians.
  • Apply research findings in patient care and participate in research activities.
  • Utilize automated data processing systems to enhance clinic operations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge about aging and geriatric patient care.
  • Meet continuing education requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
