About the position

The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) at Baylor Scott & White Health is a licensed professional responsible for coordinating patient care in the surgical environment. The RN utilizes the BSWH nursing model to assess patients, develop individualized care plans, and ensure safe transitions through healthcare. This role emphasizes clinical judgment, patient advocacy, and collaboration with healthcare teams to deliver exceptional patient experiences.

Responsibilities

• Conduct accurate assessments according to standards using clinical reasoning.
• Identify and prioritize patient and family needs.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans, modifying them as necessary to meet outcomes.
• Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, supporting evidence-based practice changes.
• Create a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and families, managing emotional and physical pain.
• Recognize and appreciate unique differences in patients and families, incorporating these into care plans.
• Preserve and protect the confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights of patients and families.
• Facilitate learning for patients, families, and healthcare teams, integrating education throughout care.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and the community to implement care plans, delegating tasks appropriately.
• Utilize problem-solving strategies and resources for effective patient care.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer
• 2 years of Operating Room experience
• Knowledge of medical terminology and patient care standards
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• General computer skills including Microsoft Office and electronic medical documentation

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with care plans
• Familiarity with medical and professional nursing ethics
• Understanding of medications and their effects
