About the position

The Database Administration Manager at Western Governors University is responsible for overseeing the planning, organization, evaluation, and administration of the university's database infrastructure. This role includes managing the Database Administrators and ensuring the effective operation of all databases and related systems. The position plays a critical role in securing IT assets, managing departmental processes, and ensuring compliance with IT governance and security protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day process flow, department personnel, productivity, and scheduling activities to meet departmental objectives.
  • Direct department personnel to maintain accurate records, documents, tickets, invoices, and logs.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain IT policies, procedures, and security compliance activities.
  • Plan IT projects, budgets, and resource needs.
  • Negotiate with vendors and contractors for technology products and services.
  • Protect IT assets through disaster recovery, backup procedures, and information security protocols.
  • Design and implement server infrastructure including Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer.
  • Assess and administer equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Manage database system asset management and documentation.
  • Perform cost-benefit analyses for proposed systems to aid management decisions.
  • Ensure optimal operation of all system equipment and effectiveness of servers and software.
  • Manage technical change control for IT changes and ensure proper communication.
  • Provide feedback, training, and administer performance reviews for staff.
  • Ensure data security and system access are maintained.
  • Manage on-call team schedules for 24/7 coverage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in technology or equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience in database engineering and administration.
  • Broad management knowledge to lead the department.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years of experience managing a database administration team.
  • Master's degree in technology or business management.
