About the position

The Database Administrator and Data Analyst role involves managing and optimizing Oracle and SQL Server databases, ensuring system security, and supporting various applications in a hybrid work environment. The position is a 6-month contract with potential for extension or permanent placement, requiring candidates to reside in the Greater Manassas, VA area.

Responsibilities

  • Database administration & performance tuning of Oracle ODAs
  • Database administration of SQL Server in a VM environment
  • Installation, maintenance and patching of Linux and Windows OS, Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL and DB2
  • Maintenance of RAC and failover
  • Provide database support for multiple COTS applications with production, test and development environments
  • Establish, document and test database DR plans
  • Familiarity with encryption, partitioning and performance tuning
  • Generating various reports by querying from database as per need
  • Willing to take on and learn additional application responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems OR certification in either Oracle or SQL Server database administration
  • At least 5 years of database administration in an Oracle environment
  • At least 2 years of database administration in a SQL Server environment
  • Installing and upgrading the database server and application tool, patching Oracle, SQL and Linux OS
  • Allocating system storage and planning storage requirements for the database system
  • Enrolling users and maintaining system security
  • Ensuring compliance with database vendor license agreements
  • Controlling and monitoring user access to the database
  • Monitoring and optimizing the performance of the database
  • Planning for backup and recovery of database information
  • Maintaining archived data
  • Backing up and restoring databases
  • Contacting database vendor for technical support
  • Managing and monitoring data replication
  • Self-starter who will work independently
  • A team player who enjoys supporting all team members.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of structured query language (SQL), PL/SQL/TSQL
  • General understanding of storage technologies and networking
  • General understanding of routine maintenance, recovery, and failover of a database including Data Guard, AG, RAC, FCI
  • Development and testing of Disaster Recovery Plans
  • Experience in Developing Dashboards for Leadership Team.
