About the position

As an Oracle Database Administrator II at Corning, you will leverage your technical acumen to provide superior engineering and production support for Oracle Database environments. This role is critical in ensuring platform stability and maximizing the performance of database environments. You will partner with application owners and teams to understand their application and business needs, as well as service level objectives (SLOs). Your primary focus will be on production support for database environments, working alongside a 24/7 support staff to ensure seamless operations. Your responsibilities will include database administration tasks such as installation, configuration, management, patching, and upgrading of database environments. You will perform essential functions like database backup and recovery, database refresh, and monitoring and performance tuning of SQL databases. Utilizing your database expertise and leadership experience, you will identify and drive improvement efforts related to the database portfolio. Participation in the Change Advisory Board will be required, where you will provide governance on database changes and perform problem resolution for complex issues, including root cause analysis and outlining resolution options. Additionally, you will be responsible for providing off-hours support for critical production issues when required. Automation of infrastructure components will be a key part of your role, leveraging your understanding of scripting, coding, and automation tools such as PowerShell, Microsoft DSC, Chef, Puppet, Ruby, Terraform, and Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM). You will maintain technical knowledge on current and emerging multi-cloud developments and industry trends, assessing opportunities and collaborating with stakeholders to incorporate new trends into current and future strategies. Working with third-party support teams and application support teams, you will educate and guide them in supporting database infrastructure technologies effectively. Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering and production support for Oracle Database environments.
  • Perform database administration tasks including installation, configuration, management, patching, and upgrades.
  • Conduct database backup and recovery operations.
  • Execute database refresh processes.
  • Monitor database/SQL performance and conduct performance tuning.
  • Identify and drive improvement efforts related to the database portfolio.
  • Participate in the Change Advisory Board and provide governance on database changes.
  • Perform problem resolution for complex issues, including root cause analysis and outlining resolution options.
  • Provide off-hours support for critical production issues as required.
  • Automate infrastructure components using scripting and automation tools.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience as an Oracle Database Administrator.
  • Experience with database technologies such as Oracle RAC, Grid Infrastructure, and Oracle Enterprise Manager.
  • Knowledge of Linux scripting and performance tuning for databases/SQL.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Familiarity with data security requirements in the manufacturing industry, such as ITAR, PCI, PHI, HIPAA, NIST, and SOX.
