About the position

The Oracle Database Administrator L2 position at TekSynap involves providing expert support for production application databases, ensuring their availability, reliability, and integrity. The role requires collaboration with application personnel for testing new database management system (DBMS) releases, performing database capacity planning, and managing database patching. The administrator will also optimize database performance, create and maintain database objects, and implement backup and recovery strategies. This position is crucial for supporting the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in Arlington, VA, as part of their IT modernization efforts.

Responsibilities

• Provide support for production application databases regarding availability, reliability, and integrity.
• Coordinate testing of new DBMS releases and upgrades from an applications perspective.
• Perform database disk space capacity planning for production application databases.
• Manage database patching tasks as required.
• Develop and maintain utilities for problem determination and monitoring activities.
• Optimize performance of production application databases by tuning and reorganizing as needed.
• Support applications databases in development and test environments.
• Create new databases and application database objects, updating existing structures as requirements change.
• Maintain database privileges and work with security administrators on security groups.
• Implement application database backup and recovery strategies, including frequency and procedures for recovery.
• Recommend and implement DBMS-related naming standards.
• Work independently or within teams to provide expert support for databases.
• Provide technical leadership to application developers regarding database capabilities and features.
• Coordinate production database deployment tasks to promote database objects between environments.
• Perform production database recovery when necessary.

Requirements

• BA/BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's Degree preferred.
• Five to seven years of experience in information technology, with at least four years as a relational database administrator.
• Advanced knowledge of networking concepts, object-oriented technology, data warehousing, and relational database engines.
• Advanced experience working with Oracle DB.
• Advanced proficiency in analytical, project planning, negotiating, interpersonal, and communication skills.
