About the position

The Oracle Database Administrator (Sr IT Database Administrator) position at Elster Solutions LLC involves a critical role in managing and optimizing Oracle databases to ensure high performance and reliability. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and delivering projects on time while adhering to defined agile processes. This role requires leading the planning and execution of Oracle database upgrades, specifically transitioning from Oracle 12c to 19c, and ensuring that the database environment is consistently updated with the latest patches and security measures. In addition to upgrade management, the Oracle Database Administrator will proactively mentor team members in performance tuning and optimization of Oracle databases. This includes testing and improving PL/SQL performance, analyzing database partitioning, and consolidating tables to enhance efficiency. The role also involves database schema modeling and data volume throughput modeling, which are essential for scaling the database to meet evolving business needs. The position requires active participation in cross-functional agile teams, collaborating closely with software developers, firmware developers, testers, product managers, and other stakeholders. The Oracle Database Administrator will work to clarify feature test acceptance criteria, participate in daily standups, and engage in code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards. The role emphasizes a team-based approach to delivering value to customers while maintaining individual technical excellence. Furthermore, the Oracle Database Administrator will capture opportunities for product improvement and communicate these back to product management to enhance customer satisfaction and user experience. Ensuring compliance with Honeywell's security requirements for new content delivery is also a key responsibility of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and deliver committed projects on-time using defined agile processes.
  • Lead Oracle database upgrade design planning, design estimates and scripting development for Oracle 12c to 19c upgrades.
  • Ensure product is current with Oracle related patching.
  • Proactively lead and mentor team in Oracle related performance tuning improvements.
  • Test and improve PL/SQL performance.
  • Analyze and improve Oracle database partitioning and table consolidation.
  • Model database schema, data volume, and throughput for scaling.
  • Research and lead efforts for new database adoption for next generation software and platform evolution.
  • Participate in cross-functional agile teams, collaborating with software developers, firmware developers, testers, and other functions.
  • Clarify and define feature test acceptance criteria with stakeholders and team members.
  • Participate in daily standups, weekly story workshops, and other team activities.
  • Engage in code reviews and adhere to existing coding standards and development processes.
  • Maximize the value and quality of projects delivered to customers with the team.
  • Review and ensure new content has adequate automated test coverage.
  • Support a team-based approach to continuously deliver value to customers while focusing on individual technical excellence.
  • Capture and drive opportunities to improve product back into product management to enhance customer satisfaction and user experience.
  • Ensure new content delivery conforms to Honeywell security requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8 years of experience in Oracle (11g, 12c, 19c) Database administration, support, and design.
  • Experience in developing automated scripts for maintenance, installation, upgrades, and backup of Oracle embedded databases.
  • Proficiency in SQL Tuning and PL/SQL database design and application development.
  • Ability to interpret Oracle AWR and ADDM reports.
  • Experience in Database Administration, Analysis, Design, Development, and Maintenance of various Applications, Oracle OEM, and Data Guard.
