About the position

The Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) position is a critical role within the IT App Strategy & Governance/Database Administration Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and supporting corporate Oracle databases, ensuring high availability, security, and performance. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a strong customer focus, as the DBA will work closely with various teams to implement best practices and improve database processes.

Responsibilities

  • Install Oracle software and maintain databases across multiple platforms.
  • Perform modifications to databases and enforce database security.
  • Maintain database backup/recovery procedures and migrate database schema changes.
  • Conduct capacity planning, performance monitoring, and tuning.
  • Manage highly available production database instances for corporate systems.
  • Develop new and enhance existing standards, processes, and procedures for database environments.
  • Provide off-hour support for production problem resolution, database migrations, upgrades, and patching.
  • Evaluate existing processes for possible refinement and work with development teams to establish a multi-year plan of activities requiring DBA services.
  • Interface with application developers, managers, directors, technology and planning personnel, and business users throughout the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience administering Oracle databases in a Linux or Windows environment.
  • Experience in SQL coding and working knowledge of Perl scripts, shell scripts, or Microsoft VBS coding.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to work in a service-oriented team.
  • Excellent technical, leadership, and service request management skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and think analytically.
  • Understanding of corporate computing infrastructure and support functions, including high availability and disaster recovery processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Oracle's Enterprise Manager.
  • Experience in application development, data modeling, and schema design.
  • Experience in automating DBA tasks and designing process improvements.
