About the position

The Oracle Database Administrator position at Akima involves providing on-site database administration services for a Department of Defense (DOD) client. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of Oracle databases, particularly version 12c or greater, and entails day-to-day maintenance and monitoring of these databases across various environments, including Development, Testing, Acceptance, and Production. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Application Administrators and Developers to ensure optimal database performance, sizing, and organization to support applications effectively. In addition to routine maintenance, the role includes responsibilities such as shell scripting and automation of repetitive tasks, managing ETL processes for data from external sources, and supporting Oracle Data Guard databases to ensure that standby databases are current. The position also requires knowledge of Oracle Grid Control for job automation, creating materialized views to support applications, and promoting code through various environments while identifying and resolving bugs. The Oracle Database Administrator will also be responsible for applying Oracle patches, troubleshooting performance issues, and managing database backups using RMAN and CommonVault, as well as restoring databases via RMAN or NetApp Snapshots. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the management and maintenance of Oracle databases, with a preference for hands-on experience in production environments. Specialized experience, including certifications such as CompTIA Security+ and Oracle Certified Associate, is highly desirable. The role requires a U.S. citizenship and the ability to maintain Secret clearance eligibility, along with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science from an accredited institution.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day maintenance and monitoring of Oracle databases in various environments (Dev, Test, Acceptance, Production).
  • Collaborate with Application Administrators and Developers to support database sizing, performance, and organization.
  • Automate routine tasks using shell scripting.
  • Manage ETL data coming in from external sources.
  • Support Oracle Data Guard databases to ensure standby databases are current.
  • Utilize Oracle Grid Control to automate jobs.
  • Create materialized views to support applications.
  • Promote code from DEV/TEST to Acceptance to Production environments and identify bugs.
  • Apply Oracle patches as needed.
  • Troubleshoot performance issues as they arise.
  • Backup databases using RMAN and CommonVault.
  • Restore databases via RMAN and/or NetApp Snapshots.

Requirements

  • Experience in the management, maintenance, and sustainment of Oracle version 12c or greater database environments.
  • Hands-on administration of Oracle databases in a production environment.
  • Certifications in CompTIA Security+ or government-approved IT Security Certification (e.g., CISSP) and Oracle Certified Associate or above.
  • Experience and knowledge in Data Guard and/or Replication.
  • Mastery in at least two of the following areas: Database backup and recovery (including RMAN), SQL/PLSQL tuning and optimization, Data replication, and Database security.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to maintain Secret clearance eligibility.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science from an ABET accredited or CAE designated institution.

Nice-to-haves
